Well, you surely know there is another Troff n scoff for Hideout helm also! Shouldn't the game crash even when you enter that one, because no bananas are required there too? Can you explain please how the Helm Troff n Scoff works.
@Kronvall87 So that works because of 2 different systems at play. The requirement for Helm T&S is actually, internally, 1. This is because the next 2 bytes after the Isles T&S requirement is the Japes B Locker requirement, which is 1. The number gets rendered as 0 because there is a failsafe in the door number renderer which says that if the index for the level is greater than 7, set it to be 7. Helm index is 8, so it uses index 7 which is Isles. As such, it displays the Isles requirement which is 0
To clarify, the internal requirement being 1 is what results in no crash for Helm T&S

I found that rainbow coin as a kid. It is a really long story and kinda silly but i never imagined that the speedrun community wouldn't know about it. I'm pretty sure I've never found anything else in this video but i haven't seen it

i played dk64 and i beat mad jack on my first try. one thing i did was to stay on one platform and switch when he was about to jump to my platform, i kept doing this over and over and the switches were closer to me than if i kept moving, i kept him cornered. and through all of that i only got hit once, and i was playing on the Nintendo 64 no emulator
So I’m curious, has anyone ever done 101% with tag anywhere and qol, curious how fast it would be in comparison since there’s so much dedicated routing in 101 that I wonder how much time is actually saved
This hack was amazing & is now the defacto way to play what was imo an already great game. But this improvement makes it my favorite N64 Rareware Title.

@JOKACRAZY There are secret ending cutscenes which are based on how much you have gotten. If you collect everything that affects the % counter, you get a Bloopers cutscene. If you get everything except 1 item (that affects the % counter), you get a cutscene with K Lumsy swimming with the kongs.

Is there a way to somehow improve a drawing distance in the game? In my opinion it's awful even by 1999 standards. Banjo-Kazooie (which was made a year ago) has this problem handled much better. It was developed by different team, but still, it's a Rareware game.
You can customize the draw distance of objects in the game. But that would have a detrimental effect on system performance for DK64. DK64 is a much bigger game than BK. It can't get away with some of the luxuries BK had
@@Ballaam Is it possible to make this feature emulator-exclusive? As far as I know, emulators are capable of swapping the textures and 3D models on the fly to a better versions (for Hi-res options in some GFX plug-in) Of course, it's only for HLE, and barely executable on a console. Conker BFD had enormous drawing distance and sometimes too often FPS falls down to 15 or less, but it's still playable. Maybe you can consider this feature as a future release (or mark it with performance warning like "use at your own risk"). Of course if it's even possible at all = )
@@kotbayun2207 We *generally* don't like making changes which are exclusive to a singular platform type. We aim for parity across all versions including stuff like game difficulty (eg. We've modified Krazy Kong Klamor so that the light flicker speed is consistent on N64 and Wii U). I'll keep this in mind though

Could you provide a timestamp to what you're referring to specifically? This is a TAS, so the inputs are manually entered and perfected for each frame, so there's some strategies here that would be difficult for a human to perform without tool assistance

@@lakipro69 That's a phasewalk. It's triple-frame perfect requiring precise stick maneuvers, prime territory for TAS. There is a tutorial for RTA on RUclips if you search for it (RUclips doesn't like links in comments)

This is the one game I can watch get speedran over and over. It's so fascinating to watch just how much this game breaks from even a little nudge, and how that affects progression.
Its so cool to find this video after being apart of the rando community for almost 6 months now. Playing dk64 when i was about 4 years old is one of my earliest memories. Hes been one of my favorite games of all time but feeling very different when i would revist. I joked with my brother that tag anywhere would actually fix the problems with the game and i found dk rando soon after. Just wanted to say ty to the dk64 community because without you guys i wouldnt have been able to rediscover my favorite of all time and making 4 year old me Keep donkin!
